Everything people ask before booking
How much is a cooking workshop?
€175 for one person, plus €65 for every additional person. Two people is €240, four is €370, six is €500. Everything is in the price: the three hours, the shopping, spices, equipment, recipe cards and the meal at the end. Nothing is added afterwards.
How long does it take?
About 3 hours, including sitting down to eat what you made at the end.
Where does it happen?
Your kitchen, or mine in Alkmaar. Chef Vidhi travels across Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Haarlem and the wider Randstad. Travel is included within 25 km of Alkmaar; anything beyond that is quoted before you book.
What do I need to have at home?
A hob, some counter space and enough plates for everyone. Chef Vidhi does the shopping and brings the spices and any special equipment.
Is anything charged on top?
No. The price is the price. Vidhi does the shopping, so you are not sent to find curry leaves on a Tuesday, and there is no second invoice afterwards.
What if we have to cancel?
25% confirms your date. The balance is due within three days after the event. more than 14 days before: full refund, deposit included. between 14 days and 72 hours: the 25% deposit is kept. inside 72 hours: the full price is due, because the shopping is done. Dates move for free if you tell me more than 72 hours ahead and we can find another one.
Can we do it vegetarian or vegan?
Yes, and it is a common request. Indian home cooking is substantially vegetarian already, so nothing gets watered down.
Is it suitable for someone who cannot cook at all?
Yes. Most people who book have never made an Indian dish from scratch. That is the point of the three hours.
Can I buy one as a gift?
Yes. Message on WhatsApp and you will get a voucher to hand over.
What language is the workshop in?
English or Dutch, whichever your group prefers. Say which when you book.
Do you do workshops in Amsterdam?
Yes, and it is the most common booking outside Alkmaar. Haarlem and the wider Randstad too. The workshop price is the same; travel beyond 25 km from Alkmaar is added and quoted before you book. See where we cook for the figures.
How many people can join?
The price runs from one person up. Eight is comfortable in most home kitchens, and larger groups are possible if you have the counter space. Ask with your number and Chef Vidhi will say whether your kitchen can take it.
Is it suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Most people who book have never made an Indian dish from scratch. That is what the three hours are for. Experienced cooks get a different version of the same class, with more technique and less hand-holding.
