As the days get shorter and darker here in the Netherlands, there's a festival that answers back with light. Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated by millions around the world, and at its heart it's simple: bring warmth to the dark, gather the people you love, and share good food.
In many homes, that means lamps glowing in windows, a thorough clean-up to welcome a fresh start, and tables full of dishes made to be passed around. Nobody eats alone at Diwali.
